What are Active Minds Chapters?

Active Minds chapters are student-led, school-based groups that lead conversation, culture change, and advocacy throughout their communities. These powerhouse student groups are working hard to serve the needs of their communities and create cultures that are more supportive of mental health through policy change, promotion of services, awareness and community-building events, social connection events, and more. As an Active Minds Chapter, you’ll have access to a suite of robust resources, ideas, professional expertise, and networks of peers – all at no cost.

Active Minds believes fervently in the power of youth and young adults as the experts of their own community’s needs and the most effective solutions – we’re here to support youth and young adults in doing what they do best – advocate for powerful meaningful change and support their peers in thriving in school and beyond.

Launching a chapter is simple!

All you need is the following:

  • At least three students and one advisor (teacher, professor, counselor, or other school staff member)
  • Complete your school’s process for starting a student organization and provide documentation of approval
  • Complete Active Minds Chapter Registration Form

 

How to maintain your Active Minds Chapter status

Follow these steps:

  • Keep the Active Minds Chapters Team at the national office up-to-date on current contact information for Chapter Presidents, Leaders, Advisors, and Members.
  • Complete all Chapter Reports (typically sent out to chapters quarterly) to let us know what your chapter has been up to.

 

Our chapters are located at more than 600 schools throughout the United States. The network represents schools that are public, private, high schools, minority-serving, community colleges, technical institutions, and more.

Middle Schools

Coming soon: Active Minds’ Chapter Network is expanding into middle schools! The middle school chapter program will include a peer-to-peer curriculum that empowers students to change the conversation about mental health in their schools and communities. Stay tuned and sign up here for the most up to date information!

 

High Schools

Having an Active Minds Chapter in your school can be an important step in changing the conversation about mental health. Our program is free and empowers youth to champion mental health advocacy and awareness with their peers.

Chapter leaders, members, and advisors will be part of the Active Minds Chapter Network upon activation and will receive monthly communications about upcoming and new programs and resources. They will also be invited to join the Slack network to connect with peer chapter leaders, and have the opportunity to meet with Active Minds staff during Office Hours.
