Sustaining an Active Minds Chapter at Your Community College

Having an Active Minds chapter on your campus can be a transformative way to make a positive impact on the culture and climate around mental health at your community college. Informed by Active Minds leaders from community colleges around the country, this guide outlines the benefits of having Active Minds on your campus and provides practical steps to establish and sustain a thriving, student-led chapter tailored to the unique needs of a community college.

Active Minds Chapters are school-based, student-led mental health advocacy groups, mobilizing peers for collective action that change school mental health norms. The Active Minds Chapter Network is comprised of 500+ chapters at high schools and colleges across the US.

All new, reactivating, and renewing Active Minds Chapters must complete the Chapter Registration process with the Active Minds National Office. Please review our Chapter FAQs for additional information. Goals and expectations for Active Minds Chapters can be found on our website.

Once submitted, please allow our team up to two weeks to process your registration form and materials. Your chapter is not officially recognized as an Active Minds Chapter until your registration form has been processed and confirmed by our team.

Please provide a reliable mailing address for your school (not a personal or home address) for our records. All new chapters will receive an Active Minds tablecloth. We will use this address to mail your tablecloth once your registration has been approved.

Chapter Contact Information
Chapters are required to have at least three student leaders, one of whom is not graduating this year, and a faculty or staff advisor. Please provide their contact information.

Please review Roles and Responsibilities for Chapter Leaders and Chapter Advisors. Each Active Minds Chapter must have a Chapter President. Chapters may have Co-Presidents if they choose. Beyond the Chapter President role, the titles and positions of other Chapter Leader roles are at the discretion of the chapter, as long as all roles and responsibilities are assigned to a leader. This is what Active Minds recommends as a minimum structure to account for essential tasks and responsibilities of a successful chapter.

Primary Advisor Contact Information

Active Minds Chapters must always have at least 1 faculty or staff advisor, regardless of their school’s rules around advisors for student organizations. Some chapters may choose to have more than 1 advisor. “Primary Advisor” may be your only advisor, or a primary advisor contact if you have more than 1 advisor. You may add another advisor contact here if that is the case for your chapter.


A strong advisor does more than check boxes. They’re an active partner in your chapter’s growth. Please review Roles and Responsibilities for Chapter Leaders and Chapter Advisors.

Chapter Expectations
All chapters must read the Expectations of Active Minds Chapters and agree that they understand and will abide by the rules laid out within. You may print and save a copy for your records here.

An email will be sent directly to the email addresses of the Chapter President AND the Chapter Advisor you listed in this form. Both the President AND Advisor must review and submit acknowledgement of the Chapter Expectations in order for the registration process to proceed. 


We hope that by outlining these expectations clearly, your chapter will be better equipped to do the important work of championing a new era of mental health. While this is an important document to establish expectations, it is our intention that it can serve as a helpful resource for your chapter’s operations moving forward to ensure alignment with the National Office.

Documentation of Student Organization Status
Active Minds requires all Active Minds Chapters to be officially recognized student clubs / organizations at their school. Chapters are expected to know, understand, and abide by their school’s policies and procedures for student clubs / organizations. 

Both new and renewing chapters are required to provide documentation that they are an officially recognized student organization at their school. New chapters must provide this documentation in the registration process and renewing chapters must provide updated documentation each year upon renewal.



Please attach documentation school recognition as an official student group to this form for our team’s review. This documentation can take the form of a letter or email from a Student Activities or administrative staff member with the authority to approve student organizations, official minutes from a school meeting where they recognize your chapter’s approval, or other official documentation that clearly shows Active Minds has been recognized and approved to operate as a student organization at your school.
