What's your favorite way to unplug?

When it's time to unplug, Ammarah recharges by stepping away from screens and into community, whether that's gathering around good food with loved ones, exploring new coffee shops, being in nature, or losing herself in a good book.

Ammarah Maqsood is the Senior Director of Individual Giving at Active Minds, where she mobilizes resources for youth mental health through authentic storytelling and a trust-based approach to philanthropy, one that centers relationships and believes communities are the experts in their own needs.

With over ten years of experience across grassroots and global organizations — including Global Fund for Women, Save the Children, and Huckleberry Youth Programs — she brings deep cross-sector expertise with a focus on gender justice, human rights, and equitable opportunities for historically marginalized communities. She holds a BA in Political Science and Economics and an MPA specializing in Public Policy and Management.

Outside of her day job, Ammarah co-chairs the Bay Area chapter of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy, a national network of changemakers who strive for excellence and equity in the practice of philanthropy, and also serves on the on the Board of The Women’s Building in San Francisco, a safe space that provides resources and support to women, LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities in the Bay Area.
