Inspiring Campaigns
Highlighting some examples of previous workplace-giving campaigns.
Urban Outfitters x Holiday Campaign
Lifestyle retailer Urban Outfitters launched a multipronged end-of-year campaign to demonstrate their support for the mental health movement and raise additional funds from their employees and customers for our mission. Activities included a Giving Tuesday corporate match fundraising campaign, in-store point-of-sale roundup donation promotion, and a comprehensive digital campaign across the brand’s social media, website, and newsletter channels. This campaign amplified Active Minds’ mental health resources and the mental health stories of real young adults across the Active Minds’ network.
These efforts raised over $111,000 during the 2023 holiday season and reached over one million people online and even more in-store.
RSM Power of Love Campaign
The Washington D.C. Region of RSM focused on supporting and promoting Active Minds through a customized year-long campaign. Activities included packing 750 Stress Less Kits to be shared with students around the country, completing an employee workplace mental health training event, joining three volunteer events with our Send Silence Packing® Program tour stops, hosting the 4th Annual RSM Birdies for Love Golf Tournament, and special office-wide events like Pie a Partner and a March Madness bracket competition.
Together, they engaged over 400 employees and raised $75,000 in 2023!
Together, we can support youth and young adult mental health
You’re not just raising funds, you’re bringing awareness and starting the conversation among new audiences — showing that this cause matters to you. Here are some ways you and your workplace can get involved.
FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES
EMPLOYEE PEER-TO-PEER GIVING CAMPAIGN
Active Minds views fundraising as a form of mental health advocacy by harnessing the power of community to connect with peers to change the conversation around mental health. Mobilize your staff to fundraise on behalf of our mission and get out into the community – our team can help create a customized landing and registration page, and employees can create teams or personal pages. These pages can also highlight key components of our work, partnership, and your commitment to supporting youth mental health to a wide audience.
Budget: Our Community Fundraising Team is happy to set up a custom landing page and team + individual pages as appropriate for your campaign. There is no associated cost, however, we recommend an initial matching gift or challenge grant to give your team an early goal to reach and surpass, all while supporting mental health!
WORKPLACE FUNDRAISER OR EVENT
Design an event that speaks to your organization’s culture! Dress-down days, raffles or auctions, department challenges, wellness activities, pie days….you name it! Our team can help with customized landing and registration pages, timelines, graphics, and more.
Budget: We’re happy to help with customized landing and registration pages and support your event however we can. We do recommend a matching gift opportunity or initial investment from your organization to show your employees that you’re committed to the cause. Please note: Active Minds cannot provide direct funding or reimbursement for expenses related to community fundraising events. Event organizers are responsible for the organization, operation, and control of the event, including all costs incurred. Our team may be able to assist, and we encourage you to reach out with questions to build the best event for your organization.
JOIN A TEAM ACTIVE MINDS EVENT
Our Team Active Minds Endurance Program is a fabulous way to make your next physical activity one that raises awareness and funds for mental health. Whether you choose to run, walk, bike, swim, cheer on a participant, or celebrate a loved one participating, your employees can make a difference!
- Sponsor employees to join one of our Signature Charity Events.
Offer to cover the registration fee and make a matching gift or the first contribution to their team! Our Community Fundraising team can help get a company or team-specific page set up and work with you to activate a team tent or finisher festival activities, depending on the race/event. See what events we’ll be at this year. - Create an employee team at a local race/marathon/fitness event.
You can fundraise for Active Minds and mental health at any local community event. While you will coordinate entry into the event for your employees, Team Active Minds participants and employees can still set up personalized pages, get exciting Team Active Minds swag (including an endurance jersey), lean on support from our team, and then cross the finish line for mental health. - Start your own Active Event.
However you want to move, let’s move mental health forward together! By starting a workplace 5K, golf outing, pickleball tournament, or any other fitness-focused event, we are collectively raising money and awareness to move the conversation forward. We can assist with timelines, templates, and support to add fundraising to your next event. Participants in Team Active Minds events will also earn custom swag and fundraising incentives.
CHARITY MILES x WELLNESS ACTIVITY CHALLENGE
Blend employee engagement, physical activity, competition, camaraderie, and support for mental health with a custom Charity Miles challenge. With a personalized, user-friendly mobile app, your employees can easily track their physical activities (whether it’s walking, running, biking – or any other activity!) and contribute to charitable causes in the process — tracking distances and reaching out to their network. You’ll have a custom activity leaderboard, and the entire team can work together to beat activity and fundraising goals! This iPhone & Android App can sync activity data from Apple Health, your phone’s internal pedometer, Strava, or any connected devices (e.g. Apple Watch, Garmin, Peloton, FitBit, etc.) that send their activities to your device.
Budget: To customize the mobile application with organization branding, language, and a specific code, there is an initial cost between $1,500-$2,500. We also recommend a “Challenge Grant” to get your employees motivated, (suggested: $5,000-$10,000, or any amount you chose) – which can be utilized as a matching gift or a per step or mile challenge (e.g. $0.01 per step tracked).
CO-BRANDED GIVING PAGES
Design a co-branded giving link that you can place on your website to encourage visitors to support mental health! We can share content highlighting mental health, Active Minds, and your organization — while allowing page visitors to make an immediate, tax-deductible impact. You can even highlight your commitment by sponsoring or matching gifts to extend your impact even further!
Employee & Workplace Donations
EMPLOYER MATCHING GIFTS
Your company may match your giving or fundraising efforts, doubling or even tripling your impact. These additional funds allow us to reach even more young adults in even more communities across the country looking for support on their mental health journey. You can note your employer on our online donation form so we can provide needed documentation, or email matchinggifts@activeminds.org with questions.
If you’re unsure if your organization has a matching gifts program, you can search our database or contact your Human Resources team.
PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS
Make it easy for employees to donate to Active Minds through an automatic payroll deduction option. If you already have a program, highlight the opportunity to give to Active Minds, either at key moments (such as Mental Health Awareness Month in May or Suicide Prevention Month in September), during a time that feels appropriate to your organization, or year-round.
- If you don’t have a payroll deduction program yet, now is a great time to consider adding one:
While employees may not choose to make a single, large-sum donation, small deductions from each paycheck add up over time and make a real impact! Consider pairing these gifts with an employer-matching gift to make a larger difference. - 6 out of 10 young people say they would choose to work for a company that offers payroll giving over one that doesn’t.
- 23% of employees say they would definitely donate more via payroll deduction if their employer offered to match their contributions
HOST AN EVENT
BOOK A WORKPLACE SPEAKER
Active Minds has several acclaimed speakers on deck. Their speeches are designed to be a memorable lecture, keynote, workshop, panel, webinar, or other type of speaking engagement, each customized and designed to improve the culture of mental health in high-performing environments. Learn more about our Speakers Bureau here.
DESIGN A SPECIAL EVENT
Host a special event at your place of business and bring your community together. Whether you charge admission, encourage donations, or just want to highlight mental health, our team can help you create a custom opportunity that inspires.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Encourage your employees to commit their time and skills to support youth and young adult mental health. Active Minds offers a number of meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals or groups of employees, and we are always looking for your creativity in designing new volunteer initiatives. Have a unique volunteer experience or idea in mind? We’d love to hear from you!
We do like to be transparent that Active Minds is not a direct services organization, so while our volunteer opportunities may look a bit different from a traditional hands-on activity, we highly value learning and mental health advocacy as a form of volunteerism. Programs through our Active Minds Speakers Bureau may allow for learning and education through webinars, fireside chats, Q&A panels, and custom online events on a variety of topics.
In addition, we conduct Stress Less Kit packaging events. These resource boxes are a toolbox focused on self-care distributed to students across the country. These kits—often packaged at a community event in workplaces like yours, which can be paired with a lunch & learn, speaker, or educational event around mental health—are filled with items such as stress balls, water bottles, self-care checklists, and journals, and include an opportunity to include co-branded items, if appropriate.
Our team is also happy to assist with employee-driven volunteerism efforts in forming and leading local events, office activations, and more. Our volunteers have hosted office and community golf tournaments, walkathons, sports challenges, bracket competitions, and so much more. We’d love to set up a time to talk and share how we can help build out the perfect employee-led event to support mental health!

COMBINED FEDERAL CAMPAIGN (CFC)
Federal Employees and retirees can donate to Active Minds by designating our organization via the Combined Federal Campaign! Our CFC number is 16455.
CAUSE MARKETING CAMPAIGNS
Many types of efforts may fall under the umbrella of cause-related marketing or commercial co-ventures. Often, they include an offer of products or services that give back, with a portion of sales donated right to Active Minds.
These relationships often have extensive agreements and relationships in place between a for-profit business and the non-profit organization or cause being supported. They may also require reporting, documentation, and registration, depending on your locality. Due to the complex nature of these agreements, we ask that you please contact us BEFORE beginning any effort to support Active Minds that may fall into these categories.
Some of these campaigns may include, but are not limited to:
- Point of sale donation
- Percentage of item sale donation
- Round-up donations during or after check-out
- Donate for a discount
- Portion of total sales donation
- Free gift with donation
Until a fully executed agreement is signed by all parties, use of the Active Minds name, logo, language, content, or any of our licensed or registered marks is strictly prohibited.
